Seven Dimensions of Wellness

By using doTERRA, we are able to tackle seven different dimensions of wellness including emotional, intellectual and physical hardships that occur in our every day lives 

Dimensions

Wellness was more than just feeling better or losing weight, it was a quality of life!

It is important to keep all the dimensions of wellness in check, failure on one will affect the others we can show you how we achieved this in our families life.

Emotional

Understanding ourselves and each other, coping with the challenges life can hit us with.

Social

Is there anybody out there? To connect with other people in our world was amazing & to establish and maintain positive relationships.

Occupational

The desire to contribute in our career to make a positive impact on other peoples lives we meet.

Intellectual

The desire to learn new ideas, improve our skills as a parent & contribute our lifelong wellness.

Spiritual

Finding peace, happiness and joy in our lives was a blessing. To understand the values and actions of your beliefs is a glorious part of a wellness journey.

Physical

Maintaining a healthy quality of life through our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress.

Environmental

To recognise our own responsibility to make a positive impact on the quality of our environment.

Emotional

What are emotions? They are information carrying molecules that bind to and react with cell receptors. Your body is made up of intelligent cells and they are wired to restore healthy emotions that go into the cell, impacting function and behaviour. We are created to function as a whole, the spirit, mind, and body are inseparably connected, communicating at a cellular level.

Feelings of depression, fear, anger, happiness, joy and even anxiety all originate from the limbic lobe of the brain. Smell is the fastest way to affect the mood. Aromatic molecules have direct access to the limbic area, or emotional seat of the brain.

When I first started my journey on the path to wellness I had zero emotions! Totally true we cannot find a picture with any sort of emotion. I did not need emotion in my life and if I did have any sort of emotion out break it was not laughter, it was more like anger.

However all this changed when we first smelt the oils something changed inside me, I smiled (shock!) and it is all down to the fantastic powerful smell from these little bottles of oils. I will always say my life changed from that first sniff. I realised there was a whole new world out there. Now remember I was working in a dirty grease infested job, I spent most of my days smelling of burgers and chips. And before that I spent most of my life smelling of beer, smoke and vomit as I used to have pubs. So that first sniff of nature was life changing did the the world smell this good? What else can the world offer me? I have found out since we have been building an international business the world is an amazing beautiful place and we need to get out and see it for ourselves. The only way to stimulate the emotional brain is through the sense of smell which is one of the reasons why Essential Oils can work so incredibly well.

There are 40 million trillion molecules in one drop of doTERRA essential oil and the chemical compounds service every cell of the body in a matter of minutes. These oils are powerful and life changing we have felt the power!

Intellectual was another part of our lives where we really did not channel our thoughts, we had a business where we just had to turn up and get the job done, we did not focus on expanding or enjoying the knowledge from learning new things we, like so many were in a rut and keeping our heads above water, safer to keep swimming in the direction you know than to find another focus.

The ability to focus can be challenging for all individuals of any age. These days our senses are constantly bombarded with images and sounds, often making it difficult to switch off the “noise” of modern living. Technology, the foods we eat and a busier pace of life can be just some of the factors contributing to a decline of our attention span and this is where essential oils came in to focus with us as well as our children.

Essential oils are powerful tools for effectively improving our focus, concentration level and memory. Whether it is to elevate the mood, ease tension or to feel more alert, using essential oils can help bring focus to a busy day. One of the best ways to experience the powerful benefits of essential oils and to improve brain function is to diffuse them aromatically or inhale their scent.

This is a simple and quick way to initiate a quick physical and emotional reaction as mentioned earlier. Using essential oils can be very effective for achieving mental clarity and can be of huge benefit in a learning environment. Just like adults, children can often be affected by daily stresses so it is important to create a positive and happy learning atmosphere for them. Topically using oils on the perfume points gives you a lift and focuses your mind for the tasks ahead.

Physical is more about habits on your wellness journey. Changing bad habits to good habits and identifying the signs of illness. It can be difficult to change a habit however, when you are sick of being sick and you have a family your desire to add years to your life becomes more meaningful.

Physical is not just about adding years but it is more about enhancing the quality of your years. Being able to keep up with the kids is a tiring job, so keeping yourself in physical shape helps level the playing field. Eating healthy food is very important to our physical health, getting the correct nutrition makes a massive difference in our day. 

It is not always easy to get the best nutrition especially when on the road and even if you are trying to eat the proper foods you still need the added support. Another dimension of physical health that people struggle with is rest. Getting a good rest and enough sleep is important to your physical health.

There is also clear distinction between the mind and body. But when considering physical health you are also supporting your mental health, the two should not be thought of as separate.

Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems and vice versa, poor mental health can negatively impact on your physical health, leading to an increased risk of some conditions. Making these changes to you daily habits will only add to your wellness lifestyle, if you are out of shape in your own body and you can do something about it, then do it.

We did not have a social life we did not connect to the world apart from work, work was as good as it got for Sinéad and I, dropping the kids to school and the shopping trips. I worked mostly at nights outside with my colleague who worked inside, Sinéad worked from our home office shut away from the world! We did not feel the sense of belonging and felt very socially excluded. We did not have time to join groups, get involved with local traditions or even follow our beliefs.

Being healthy and being part of dōTERRA has changed that completely. Our lifestyle, the way we live our life together, value local traditions and follow our beliefs are all important to our social wellbeing and quality of life. We have got to know so many beautiful friends all over the world from Brazil to Greece from Australia to the USA and countless friends in Europe. Socially we have opened our hearts and minds to this beautiful amazing world we live in and we are eternally grateful for that. Our lives used to revolve around a 300km radius. The social contacts or networks we have built has changed our career path, as well as enhancing our personal creativity and expression. Getting involved in various cultural activities worldwide within communities we have not even heard of before, is not only good for your wellness but will improve life satisfaction and happiness. Wherever we go we build friendships, our biggest strengths are to grow friendships and it is only now we have been able to do what we are on this earth to do.

Spiritual well-being is a personal responsibility of each and every one of us and can only be achieved through obedience to your beliefs. We always had our beliefs but never had time for them in our lives. Through listening and supporting people, we have met on our journey we have realised this world is in a dark place and we need to do more to support and listen to each other, the amount of people we have met who just wanted to talk and we have been able to offer them hope by listening with our heart not just our ears. Learning to live and love people where they are in their lives. 

We have come to realise by seeking and doing the right things first, good things will follow. Regardless of your age or stage in life, one of the genuine needs of a wellness life is to live a happier life and to be more successful, By increasing in spirituality, you will see opportunity for growth in the challenges life brings you and you will be happier, and in those things that matter most in life, you will be more successful.

Spiritual confidence increases when you take responsibility for your own spiritual well-being, while neglecting your body, which is your temple, can usually leads to spiritual dissonance and low self-esteem.

When you align with dōTERRA and understand the amount of good they do in this world it is amazing to be a part of it. When you look at the amount of charities or good causes they are involved with you get a sense of anything is possible. There is just too many to mention but I will mention a few which are close to our hearts.

O.U.R is an organisation where they have gathered the world's experts in extraction operations and in anti-child trafficking efforts to bring an end to child slavery. O.U.R.'s Underground Jump Team consists of former CIA, Navy SEALs, and Special Ops operatives that lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts. These operations are always in conjunction with law enforcement throughout the world.

Once victims are rescued, a comprehensive process involving justice for the perpetrators and recovery and rehabilitation for the survivors begins. It is time for private citizens and organizations to rise up and help. It is our duty as free and blessed people.

Home for all is really close to my heart as I spent last year there and Katerina and Nikos’ story captured our hearts, ever since the first boats arrived on Lesvos, Nikos and Katerina have been giving everything they have to help. With a car filled with dry clothes and food, Nikos would set out looking for anyone arriving on the island who needed help - to sometimes return without even his own shirt on, because he gave it away. They have turned their restaurant into a sanctuary of love for the refugees.

Occupational wellness involves preparing and making use of your gifts, skills, and talents in order to gain purpose, happiness, and enrichment in your life. Our lives were far from all that, quite the opposite and to hear the amount of people who dislike their occupation breaks my heart as I did it most of my life, it is also draining on your wellness.

Occupation satisfaction and wellness is related to your attitude about your work. Achieving optimal occupational wellness allows you to maintain a positive attitude and experience satisfaction and happiness. Occupational wellness is a commitment to a total lifestyle that is satisfying and rewarding. We have definitely developed personally in this occupation. We now work and empower people to grow, our occupation now is a personal growth business.

Because I know you are clever enough to understand they are linked, no matter how successful you may be, the fear of not being good enough or strong enough is present in all aspects of your life whenever you want to make changes.

Brave has been said to us a lot when we made our choices, however after a simple mental exercise with a good friend of mine where he asked me where I see my future in 20 years, one lead to DEATH and the other to my daughters wedding! Brave would not be the word I would have used, smart! We still had to make the BIG decision though and the fear of not being good enough or people will judge us for making a BIG decision played on our mind for a while before we realised unless we made the step into the life we wanted, then nothing would change and a life of regret would entail.
